Vintage Glamour

Hey there! wow am I impressed with these photos, courtesy of Levi Maddison :) I went over to go and help Levi a few weeks ago for her Vintage Glamour uni project and these are the results. I was afraid that I wasn't going to be much help with my wind swept hair and tired eyes (I'd been sat through two long lectures) but Levi assured me otherwise the wee sweetheart. Also you don't get to see how tired I am because the pictures have to be manipulated a bit to get that porcelain glow that vintage glamour models seem to radiate, you could practically use them as a torch in the dark.

Just a small tip for anyone ever looking to have a few lovely pictures taken, either as a group or just by yourself - befriend some photography students! they're always looking for models and if you're extra nice they'll even make sure they get you in the best light.

Festive finds

Gold Unicorn Clutch Bag - TheWhitePepper // Fluffy Coat - Sheinside // Sparkly Dress - TheWhitePepper
Cut out shoes - Topshop // Ring - Urban Outfitters // Nail Varnish - Topshop

Isn't there just something about this time of year that makes you want to gravitate towards shiny and sparkly things? I put it down to the lack of sunlight, therefore we have to make up for it by reflecting little beams of sunshiney goodness off of ourselves, well it applies for me anyway - and I'm aware that this puts me at great risk of looking like a Christmas tree fairy. I'm okay with that.

The White Pepper have some brilliant stuff on their website at the moment you should really check out, such as this unicorn clutch bag - Genius! I wonder what its like inside... I'm imagining my lip balm finding a comfortable home inside one of its hooves.

Also, if like me you've been searching for something fluffy to throw on at a reasonable price, the Sheinside coat is in the sale right now. I'm now aiming to make myself look like a snow-woman too, just to see how many festive character boxes can I tick :)

Walk like a penguin

Coat - New Look
Striped jumper - Joules
Dress - H&M
Scarf - TK Maxx

Could be something to do with the stripes but I'm feeling rather french in this outfit, you may notice that this is also the grandad coat that I nabbed from the photo shoot - it goes perfect with my whole wardrobe so I'm pretty smitten with my decision to keep a hold of it. You can't really tell from photographs but the texture of this is what really makes it for me, sort of like a very short haired faux fur material which gives it a neat finish, and it doesn't look like it'll ever bobble which is something that can be a real disappointment when it comes to fabric coats, so I'm counting on this one to last me a while.

A little tip in case you haven't already come across it; shave - yep, shave those bobbly coats to get them to look good as new again, and I've found that does work for a while until you have to do it again, and I'm always wary of doing it to the point where it ruins the appearance and wears the fabric thin. Perhaps I should walk more like a penguin to avoid chafing them to bits... but then again people might just think I'm walking with a swagger and I don't think I'm the type to pull that off.

VoilĂ !

Coat - New Look
Shirt - Zara
Skirt - Primark

Shirt - H&M

Skirt & Jumper - Topshop
Beret - My momma's
Shoes - Kurt Geiger
Bag - TK Maxx

Oooooh it feels good to finally share with you some of the stuff I've been editing. Suzy (The model) has been receiving many compliments over my shoulder at uni, and its no surprise really, look at what a wee stunner she is. If you want to check out her blog its right here, she's got a lovely couple of festive posts up at the moment (including how to make peppermint hot chocolate - yum!) and quite regularly updates with some handy beauty tips too.

All of the photos are courtesy of the wonderful Fiona Rennie, I knew I could have complete faith in her, the biggest problem I have is actually choosing which images I'm going to submit for my coursework. Fingers crossed I'll be fortunate enough to have my spread published in the magazine we're compiling for this module, only a select few get the go ahead and it seems like the competition will be tough - I have been sneaking peeks at everyone else's work, and from what I've seen so far the standard is pretty high up there! But even if mine doesn't manage to get in I'm really pleased with the end result, it has gone and re-affirmed my love of getting involved with fashion photo shoots, so the next time I meet up with Fiona we may just have to do another one for the sheer hell of it :)

p.s. Gotta love the grandad coat in this shoot, yep, this was another item I couldn't part with and it is now mine. No regrets.

Behind the scenes/ goofing about in Edinburgh

As promised! I bring you behind the scenes shots complete with beret - check it just having a little rest on the tripod like its been doing all the hard work. We certainly had tired feet at the end of the day after running around from one end of Edinburgh to the other - most of that was me dragging Fiona and Suzy up the Royal Mile insisting that 'Its tooootally the next alley coming up that I want us to shoot in' for the umpteenth time, only to arrive at said alley way to find out that it is the most popular spot for tour groups to congregate in. None the less, we managed to seize a window of opportunity where there must have been a lull in the touring parade and so got some pretty decent shots in the bag.

All that running around for sore feet was definitely worth it though for the wonderful pictures we got and the fun we had taking them, one of the highlights was a member of the passing public wanting to be a part of the action, and with a ridiculously photogenic face like that who could refuse him? If you didn't know any better, you'd think they were a couple of love drunk honeymooners.

I'm going to post some of the final edited pictures up next! so get your peepers at the ready :)

Inspiration for the shoot!

Cardigan - Mango

This weekend I got to spend some time on the blustery Isle of Lewis, and I'm afraid these are the best fashion shots I could negotiate with the wind, it was determined to make each shot either blurry or a wild display of long hair and yes, I do own a pretty impressive beard on the second shot. That cardigan on the other hand is something else, I keep it at home so I know I'll always have something waiting for me to wrap myself up in. Boy, does it feel cosy, and its proved itself to be a good little investment too, over the years it has kept its shape and hasn't gone out of fashion, I especially like the diamond pattern detail - which you can probably just about make out in the wind buffeted snapshots.

With my fashion shoot project still in mind I used my spare time at home to put together an inspiration board in preparation, I've found it helps to show this to the photographer and the model so that everyone can see whats going on inside my noodle brain. Nothing gets my point across better than a carefully thought out arrangement of pretty pictures, I have even more on my pinboard here. I love the idea of a slightly geeky/coffee spippin'/whimsy and almost Parisian feeling theme, a beret will most certainly make an appearance.

Next post will be full of photo shoot snaps! Fingers crossed it all goes to plan.

Daisy

Top - Primark
Skirt - Topshop
Bag - Zara
Shoes - Next

Ello! Hope y'all have had a dandy week - I got to spend mine in Edinburgh, and what a bloomin' lovely place! I really should have stopped to take more pictures, not to fear though, I'll be back in a couple more weeks to do my fashion shoot so if any of you are familiar with Edinburgh, I would love to hear your suggestions on where to go :)

This daisy Tee just brightens up my day without fail whenever I put it on - only cost me a few pennies from Primark! Although I must point out that I'm not the only one to have spied this little beauty, quite a number of other people own it too, seeing as I spot someone else in it nearly every time I walk through town... but y'know what? I think I like it too much to let my hipster tendencies stop me, and if I see someone else wearing it while I'm wearing it, I shall grace them an approving nod, for we must have the same brilliant taste. Infact, lets create a daisy T-shirt community, anyone game? no? just me then...
